It's good to be back!

Today I was working in the kennel that doesn't have dogs in training. This kennel houses dogs being evaluated to become breeders, dogs recovering from being spayed or neutered, boarding guides, and career changes or breeders waiting to be placed in their new homes. My time there was pretty uneventful. I got there after the morning cleaning, feeding, and meds had already been done. I helped with some general kennel stuff and then it was play time for the dogs.

Today in community run, there was a beautiful dark red golden girl named Leigh who just wasn't completely sure about it all. She seemed to enjoy hanging back and watching the other dogs play. She preferred cuddling with the humans. Then, along came Nandy. Boy did these two get along! They were like best friends and it was so great seeing Leigh having so much fun playing.

This reminded me of  another time in community run between Krissa and Halette. Krissa,, a dog who just graduated last Saturday, got very excited in community run when she first came to GDB and Halette was absolutely perfect with her. She ignored her when appropriate and encouraged her when appropriate. I got the chance to see Halette today, she is in phase 8 waiting to be matched with her visually impaired partner. She is such a wonderful dog and I am so glad to see that she has almost completed her training.

  2. Oh, how awesome! I just found your blog. I raised Halette and have only heard very little since her return to Guide Dogs back in July. It is great to see some photos. Thanks for sharing.
